Your weak spots

Finish a set and we'll build this from what you actually missed - the questions you got wrong, weighted, plus more from the topics that tripped you up. Nothing to drill yet.

The real test

25
Questions
88% - 22 of 25, in 20 minutes
To pass
  • 25 questions in 20 minutes, 88% to pass. That is three wrong answers, not four.
  • MVA's older Knowledge Test Appointment Instructions page still says 85%. The current Knowledge Tests page says 88%, and that stricter figure is the one used here.
  • A pass stays valid six months. Retest the next business day after one failure, seven calendar days after two or more.

Read the official handbook

This is the source everything on the real test comes from, and it is free. Practice questions find your gaps; the handbook fills them. Read it on the government's own site so you get the current version.

Watch out for

Rules that catch people out in Maryland specifically.

  • There is no statewide school-zone speed limit. The manual prints none at all - counties may post 15 mph during school hours, and that is the whole rule.
  • Residential defaults split on the median: 30 mph undivided, 35 mph divided. Same street, different limit.
  • Wipers on means headlights on, and here it really is the law - along with a separate 1,000-foot visibility trigger.

Practice sets

Maryland Basics

Starter · 30 questions

The rules you meet on your first drive in Maryland: what the shapes and colours mean, who goes first, and the handful of numbers the MVA's 25-question knowledge test expects you to know cold.

The basics, gently introduced.

Core Rules of the Road

Easy · 30 questions

The everyday rules the MVA expects you to have down cold - signals, markings, right of way and the licensing restrictions that come with a Maryland permit.

Core rules most people get right.

Real Test Difficulty

Medium · 35 questions

Exam-level questions across the whole manual, including the numbers Maryland keeps in the statute book rather than the handbook.

Real exam difficulty.

Across the Whole Manual

Medium · 35 questions

A second exam-level set, weighted towards the parts of the Maryland manual people skim: licensing penalties, work zones, highway driving and the rules about stopped vehicles.

Real exam difficulty.

The Ones People Fail On

Hard · 35 questions

Maryland's genuine traps: the rules with a county carved out of them, the numbers that live only in the statute book, and the places where the manual and the law say slightly different things.

The ones people actually fail on.

Exam Simulation
