Instruction Permit

Scott's Law is the single most-missed topic in Illinois, and the penalties are far heavier than people expect. These sets lean into it.

Your weak spots

Finish a set and we'll build this from what you actually missed - the questions you got wrong, weighted, plus more from the topics that tripped you up. Nothing to drill yet.

The real test

35
Questions
80% correct (at least 35 questions)
To pass
  • The rule sets a minimum of 35 written questions with 80% correct, so the exact count can be higher.
  • Scott's Law, adverse conditions and warning-sign shapes are where Illinois learners measurably lose the most marks.

Read the official handbook

This is the source everything on the real test comes from, and it is free. Practice questions find your gaps; the handbook fills them. Read it on the government's own site so you get the current version.

Watch out for

Rules that catch people out in Illinois specifically.

  • Scott's Law covers more than police cars, and a first offence starts at $250 and climbs steeply.
  • The under-19 phone ban has no hands-free exception - unlike the rest of the state's rules, it keys off 19, not 18.
  • Moving-violation limits differ by age: three in 12 months at 21+, but two in 24 months under 21.

Hard · 35 questions

The Illinois rules that trip up experienced drivers: move-over duties, the under-21 thresholds, the conditional passing rules, and the numbers nobody remembers until they are asked.

The ones people actually fail on.

Exam Simulation

Exam simulation · 30 questions

Thirty questions, mixed topics, no hints in the wording - the shape of the real thing. The Secretary of State's rule sets the Class D written test at a minimum of 35 questions with 80 percent required, so 28 of 35 is the bar you are training for.
